- Social research is always connected to theories and concepts. Describe one theory that you have learned about (from any of your classes). What does this theory focus on? What are the strengths of this theory? Give an example of a topic that you would like to research where you could use this theory to make sense of your findings (ex: homelessness, domestic violence, social media addiction, single motherhood, etc.).
- Imagine that you are a graduate research assistant overseeing an undergraduate class while the professor is in a faculty meeting. The class asks you, “What is SPPS, and why do we need to use it for research?” Give your explanation to the class. After this, describe one function or component of SPSS that you understand (ex: data view, variable view, sample size, level of measurement, coding, etc.). Explain to the class what this function means or what this component does.
