Essay: The Importance of Names

The authors we are reading together have very clear opinions about whether or not it is important to call a person by their preferred name.  Does it matter what name we give to a person or a thing?  Is a person’s name an important part of their identity? Why or why not?  Write an essay that addresses this subject.

You may choose to write about your own name in order to answer the question. You may write in the first person only in the section where you discuss your own name.

Please use evidence from the essays we read in class to support your thesis. You should not conduct research or use outside sources for this assignment.
