Trump’s American Carnage

Please watch PBS’s news program Frontline’s “American Carnage”.  What does the news program suggest about the politics of Trump, the American Political system (democracy) and the future of the Republican party and conservative ideology?  In what ways does misinformation and propaganda influence political power?  How are the politics of former President Trump different from President Biden’s? In what ways does the news documentary relate to  the assigned chapters (Chapters 1-8,11.12. 17 & 18 in Magstadt)? What surprised you about this story? Any other thoughts?

Trump’s American Carnage Answer

The news program demonstrates the personality and race-based politics that former President Donald Trump showed while he was in office and after his defeat in 2020 elections. The former president never discussed policy details in his agenda. Instead, he willingly ceded control over the policy-making processes to his party-mates such as Senate Majority Floor Leader Mitch McConnell. Not that he fully trusted those people but because he knew that he can impose power over them in the event that they depart from his policy preferences.
