Week 6 Discussion Answer

Summary.  A summary of a key topic from this module.

How is the structure of eukaryotic genes different from prokaryotic genes?

Prokaryotic organisms are single-celled organisms without a nucleus, and with DNA that floats freely in the cell cytoplasm. During protein synthesis, the transcription and translation occur almost simultaneously. When more protein is required, more transcription occurs. Otherwise, transcription stops when the produced protein is no longer needed. This process of DNA transcription regulation thereby controls the type and amount of protein to be expressed in a prokaryotic cell. Meanwhile, all of the subsequent steps occur automatically.
