In the Apology, Socrates tells us that he would rather die than stop practicing philosophy because philosophy is the way in which we care for our inner selves. How, according to Socrates, does philosophy help us to care for our inner selves? Do you think he is correct that philosophy can do this?
Please remember that you are required to submit two posts to this forum: one post answering the question and one post responding to the post of another student in the class.
Philosophy helps us to care for our inner selves because it gives us the ability to use intelligence to understand human nature, the experiential world, and of course, our morality. Without philosophy, everything would be taken as it is, without the question of form or of the essence, of function and of purpose. Philosophy also helps us determine and acknowledge what we know about ourselves and this knowledge helps us identify our similarity and our difference with other people.
