As you learned last week, cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the United States. Not surprisingly, there are numerous drugs, interventions, and procedures to handle cardiovascular disease. This week you will do some research and write a brief report on one of those treatments, and relate it to content you are learning this week.
Directions
- Skim through posts that have already been made. Please try to find an original topic for this discussion board.
- Using Google or your search engine of choice, find a treatment for cardiovascular disease. This can be a drug, surgical treatment, experimental treatment, or other type of intervention.
- Title, center, and bold your treatment name. Please include both the generic and brand name if it is a drug.
- In about 2-3 paragraphs, answer at least the following questions:
- What type(s) of cardiovascular disease does it treat?
- How does it work? What are the physiological mechanism behind its function?
- If the treatment is not a first line treatment (Links to an external site.), under what conditions would it be given?
- For drugs, how often is it given/done, what is the dosage? For surgeries, what steps are involved in the procedure? How long are patients “cured” for?
- What side effects or issues may occur with this treatment? What contraindications (Links to an external site.) exist?
- Include a simple list of references of where you found your information.
- Make this initial post by the end of Friday, 5/20 at 11:59pm
- By the end of Sunday, 5/22, write a reply to two peers. Consider the following in your reply. You can absolutely write beyond the topics below. This should be at least 50 words each.
