Professor Explanation
The first essay in this course is referred to as a diagnostic essay. It’s function is to present a picture to me of your writing skills as they have developed until this time. So this essay is what in business is referred to as a benchmark–a starting point.
For this essay, there are 2 readings to provide you with some background and ideas to think about in relation to the topic.
General Information
In the pandemic era, people have become more sedentary with hours spent in front of a computer screen rather than being outside moving around and interacting directly with others. Doctors have been saying for a long time that sitting is the new smoking, so even more sitting in front of our screens can’t be doing us much good. The articles provided for this assignment present the question of exercise for overall health–hating it and reasons to do it.
• Discuss this topic and explain your thoughts without using “I” or “I think” or “I believe” too much if you can. Try to be on the outside looking at the question. Don’t put yourself into the discussion.
• Write an essay of 900 words which has a minimum of 5 paragraphs [introduction, body, and conclusion] which contain at least 8-10 sentences per paragraph.
• Provide supporting ideas from the 2 articles attached (Article: Hate Exercise v2 and Article: Unexpected Benefits of Exercise v2) and some of your own pre-existing knowledge or experience with the topic.
• If you know how to, provide in-text citations for examples from the readings used to support your discussion. These will be in parentheses ( ) using the author’s last name.

For in-text citations:
• Remember that these articles have an author, so you are citing the author’s name.
• To cite the author, you would put the author’s last name in parentheses for example like this: (Clay) or (The Greatist)
• There are no page numbers because the articles are pdfs posted in Canvas without any page numbers, so do not add any page numbers.

You may NOT use any additional outside sources from the web or any databases or any other articles. This will count against your score.

Excerpt

COVID-19 made it difficult for people to maintain healthy lifestyle habits. A consequence of this would be people’s lack of exercise. Because of the work and study from home orders, people have to work harder to stay active. There are fewer reasons for people to take walks or runs. Being able to move around has become harder. This sedentary lifestyle has caused some problems. People are becoming unhealthy because of the lack of activity. They cannot do simple tasks without being exhausted. The parks and gyms are becoming empty. People no longer want to take care of themselves. Clearly, there is an impact on people’s health. This can turn people weak and vulnerable to diseases. On top of that, COVID-19 has added a lot of stress to people’s lives. People are becoming more isolated from others. They no longer go outside to enjoy nature. These are behaviors that can create a negative perspective about the world. Exercising is a simple solution to a complicated problem. Promoting exercise as a healthy habit should be supported because it brings different benefits like less anxiety and stress and more self-confidence and brainpower.
