Essay On The Autonomous Indigo: Choosing Marriage

Essay On The Autonomous Indigo: Choosing Marriage

Instructions
Indigo is normally an autonomous person. Discuss how she would go about making an important decision —for example, what career to pursue, whether to make a large purchase, whether to marry someone. That will require you to go into depth about the concept of autonomy and what has to be going on for someone to be autonomous; a slogan will not be enough. Then discuss in detail one way someone else’s actions could undermine the autonomy of her choice. Finally, discuss in detail one way that social forces (social, cultural, economic, et cetera) could undermine the autonomy of her choice.

Notes
To answer the question in this assignment, you will need to synthesize in your own words material covered in the lectures and do some independent thought which goes beyond the material in the lectures. You will not be able to successfully complete the assignment without reading / watching the course materials (probably several times as you work on this).

1000 words to fully answer the question.

Excerpt

As an autonomous individual, Indigo is free to make choices that are suitable for himself. This autonomy presents itself in various ways, but it is illustrated through Indigo’s capacities, options, and beliefs. In this particular case, Indigo is contemplating the decision to get married to someone. Marriage is an essential and massive decision that can completely change one’s life. Not only is this because of its legal implications, but also due to its social, familial, and perhaps psychological impact. As Indigo moves forward with the decision to get married, she has to have a clear understanding of her choices. At the same time, Indigo is fully aware of how she feels about marriage and the commitment that it requires. She may be influenced, however, by a variety of factors such as her family’s culture, her financial standing, or even her fiancé’s career. To determine the level of autonomy that Indigo possesses, looking at these influences would be pivotal.
