Language barrier poses challenge to anyone: a tourist, an expat, a missionary, literally anyone who is stranger to a place where he or she is in. In this sense, Jessica should not feel that she is being singled out by fate. Her case is something that can be worked on through a gradual and useful process. I have at least three advices to Jessica to deal with the realizations that she had while being in class.

    First, while language is an essential part of one’s national identity, it does not mean that the absence of skill in speaking one makes someone less of a person.
