In this article published by Aljazeera, the unprecedented nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson is discussed. With her nomination by US President Joe Biden and if she will be confirmed by the US Senate, she will become only the third Black justice of the US Supreme Court, the sixth woman to do so, and the first ever Black woman in the highest court of the land. Although she has only served for a year as a judge at the US Court of the Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, she already wrote two majority opinions that have great political significance. One of these is the decision allowing White House records to be transmitted to Congress to aid the inquiry regarding the mob attack at the US Capitol last year. The other opinion overturns a policy enacted during the Trump presidency that limited the bargaining power of unions. She also has an impressive legal background. She graduated from Harvard Law School and was an editor for its Law Review. She also worked as a clerk for the retiring Justice Stephen Breyer whom he will replace. In addition, she also used to be a public defender and she will be the first to be part of the Court after having served in that capacity (Aljazeera, 2022).
