Down Syndrome: This condition develops when a baby is born with an extra chromosome. The extra chromosome causes disruption in cell processing therefore affecting the child’s pattern of development both in his physical and mental health. Every child experiencing the symptoms of down syndrome have very unique patterns of developmental disruptions depending on how other body systems interact with the unusual pattern of cell behavior in the body. Children who have down syndrome often have higher mortality rate compared to other forms of disabilities and disturbances related to chromosome disturbance.

Patau Syndrome: This condition develops when a growing infant has an additional copy of chromosome 13 that usually affects more than just one body cell. This additional chromosome causes an infant’s low growth rate. Children who are diagnosed to experience the symptoms of having this extra chromosome copy often have low mortality rate. At least 60% of those who develop this condition die before they reach their first year.
