Excerpt

With the professional qualifications and skillsets of a dental hygienist, he/she spearheads along with a dental team with detecting and diagnosing oral cancer; the expertise of the dental hygienist promotes general patient care and early disease detection (Perone, 2017). This kind of medical and professional responsibility also requires the help of technological devices and tools invented for the sole purpose of aiding in performing oral cancer screening. While the traditional practices for this medical function is already appropriate and effective, the use of technological tools is also very necessary and acts as a supplementary support towards better early disease detection. Two of examples of technological devices used for performing oral cancer screening are ViziLite and VELscope; these two devices have been very rampant in the past few years but suddenly faded away along the years (Giesey, 2013). Other technological tools include Identafi oral cancer screening instrument, which became one of the most used tools/instruments by dental hygienists who perform oral cancer screening. Even though these professionals already have the professional skillsets for practicing such medical duty, they become the one to manoeuvre these tools during this practice.
