Instructions
Directions:

Do not include a works cited page for journal entries.
Assignment:

For the reading this week, the author speaks from the perspective of a child. Although the child is thought of as a “child” her words are very adult-like; she speaks her mind whenever given the chance. For your response this week, focus on the differences between what Hazel says and what you think the adults hear. How does this differ and if you were speaking with her, what would you say to her? Be sure to include specifics from the reading to support your ideas.

Excerpt

Perhaps we can all agree that the way how Bambara narrated “Gorilla, My Love” is a bit puzzling, even challenging. We can surely hear of a child speaking, as the syntax of words and usage of grammar show but digging deep into its meaning is a real extra challenge. How can one get meaning from a “poorly” told story? A story whose lessons even adults will have a hard time deciphering. But we must not get lost in the ingenious way by which Bambara told this story. A closer look will reveal some important lessons.
