Complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) have been reported to positively affect some diseases and illnesses. If they are unable to cure these diseases, they have been shown to at least create a much more bearable experience for the patients. There are countless barriers to the usage of CAM in treating diseases. Most of these involve the lack of wider studies about CAM. Nevertheless, as will be explored in the latter paragraphs, CAM therapies do possess some level of effectiveness. There is hesitation in using CAM because of its general negative image in the scientific field. Although CAM is oftentimes heard in response to cancer treatments, it may also be used for other diseases such as diabetes and fibromyalgia. Current evidence shows that CAM, for as long as it is carefully utilized for each patient, can help manage certain diseases because of its capacity to reduce the stress load on the body.
