Landscaping the Perspective of Arts in California Painting

The Resonant Surface invites us to pause our sight and engage in an integrated and comprehensive encounter of artworks that involves Harmonic landscapes, percussive abstractions, sound and color explorations, and another multimodal content challenge visual perception’s responsiveness. The show examines these graphic, motion, and sound experiments in early to mid-twentieth-century California art. It recounts how creators have historically used painting to probe the complex structure of perceiving beyond eyesight, establishing links across time, place, pictures, objects, and experiences.
