Excerpt

Considering the case of Rajah about withholding one-cent in change, my personal ethical stand is to stand with Rajah and to consider this act as unethical. In the case scenario, this act was noted by Rajah to be unethical as this appears as “stealing pennies from customers.” Looking at the situation, withholding the change does seem unethical especially since the reason cited for this policy change is not for the benefit of the customer but for the profit increase in the company. Lauren, the regional manager, explained that this policy was made since the pennies that will be collected from all the branches can greatly increase their profit margins. However, if the customer demands for the penny, then they would still give the one cent to the customers.
