Since the human ACE2-compatible receptor-binding domain (RBD) sequence has also been found in a few pangolin viruses and they are closely related to the ancestor of the RaTG13/SARS-CoV-2 lineage, is it possible that a new form of coronavirus that can infect humans can arise from pangolins in the future? If so and considering the pangolin’s lineages, what can we do today in order to stop a zoonotic jump and prevent another coronavirus outbreak from pangolins in the future?
