Reading Response

For this journal assignment, we will be focusing on Dr. Frankenstein and his relationship with his creation. So far in the story, we’ve come across a man who used his own selfish desires to create something because he thought he would be able to play a higher power. Instead of focusing on his family and how to help them, he focuses on himself. Then after he creates this Creature, he is so disgusted by it, that he runs away in fear and abandons it. His creature says to Victor “Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust?” It is important for us to remember that the Creature did not ask to be brought into this world nor did he know what to expect once he was in it. He felt abandoned and had no one to turn to when he needed help.

For this journal, I would like you to write two complete pages discussing your opinion on the relationship between Frankenstein and his Creature. Be sure to include discussions of what this relationship might look like in modern times: the relationship between parents/children today. You may include your personal opinion on this relationship and discuss what you think about Frankenstein and/or the Creature.
