Parenting Styles

Question

This week’s readings discussed parenting styles: Authoritarian, Authoritative, Permissive, Neglectful and the stages of parenting – image-making, nurturing, etc.

  • Please choose one stage in your own parents’ development as parents and discuss their parenting style in that stage.

A brief example:

During the interpretive stage, my parents were mostly authoritarian. They used corporal punishment at times, their rules were, for the most part, not meant to be questioned.

  • How do you think their parenting style during this stage affected you?

Please respond to the posts of at least two classmates:

  • Your initial response to their post?
  • Can you connect with their experiences?
