Chapter 2 – Discussion: Barriers to Applying for Jobs

Question

Introduction

The field of Family and Consumer Sciences is very broad and impacts the entire economy. Unfortunately, most people are not aware of the major or the skills that students obtain. Those that are old enough to remember may simply think of it as the old home economic classes. Many jobs listing don’t include it as an eligible major for applying for the position.

The question for the week is:

“As a Family and Consumer Sciences major, what are you doing to do to overcome these barriers to getting a job.”

If you are not a Family and Consumer Sciences major, “How will you use the skills you learn in this class in your career?”
