Investigating a Corporation – Corporations B

Question

Using the corporation you have been assigned on the previous page, do some light preliminary research to discover which of the areas of business practice (specified on the assignment) have brought the corporation into the news.  You will likely find coverage on a range of issues (environmental, consumer and community affairs, hiring, etc.,) .

Note: All of these corporations have received media attention for their infractions, many of them ending up on a list of “worst offenders” so, although your research might show that they have improved their practices, the purpose of the research is NOT to extoll the virtues of the company according their own website or company spokespeople.  Seek evidence from more objective critics of the company’s practices, in order for your argument to have any credibility.  This is an investigation, not an infomercial for the company. Where have they shown prior negligence on their “socially-responsible” report card? Look beyond the surface.  The first concern that comes up in research, may just be the most obvious, not necessarily the most significant or  interesting to research.  There may be other areas where the company has faced charges of negligence.

  1. POST a reply to your group, sharing your early findings (200 words).
  2. POST a minimum of one reply to THREE group members, comparing your discoveries (100 words) and asking them a pertinent question:  How do you respond to in their allegations?  Were you aware of the issues that they discuss? What do you want to know more about?
  3. POST a minimum of one response back to at leastone group member who replied to you (75-100 words).

Use the discussion to help frame a narrowed topic question and add to your bibliography to further your individual research.
