Introductions and How to Read Literature

Welcome to our first discussion assignment! It’s due Friday, 2/11. The goal of this discussion is to introduce you to one another as classmates and to the process of literary analysis. Over the course of the semester, we’ll be analyzing and interpreting the meaning of several works of literature. The following essay discusses the process of doing that.

Follow the link below and read the essay before you do this assignment. The essay is also on the following module page. Wherever you read it, be sure to come back and take part in this required discussion:

Over the course of the semester, we’ll read several works of literature for the purpose of practicing our critical thinking and analytical skills. Before doing the following introduction assignment, read Terry Eagleton’s essay “How to Read Literature.” Follow the link at the top of the page.

  • After reading “How to Read Literature,” please, introduce yourself and answer the following questions:
  1.

    2. What did you like and what did you dislike about Eagleton’s essay?
    3. What questions do you have about the essay?
  • After posting your responses to the questions above, reply to two classmates’ posts: Introduce yourself back, respond to their answers to question two, and try to answer a question they have about “How to Read Literature.”
