Discussion 1: Feedback Loops

Question

One topic covered in the lecture video this week is feedback loops. A critical skill for the Midterm is being able to identify parts (e.g., sensor, integrating center, etc.) of a feedback loop based on an image. In this discussion board you will have some practice doing that. Follow the directions below to complete this discussion board.

  1. Use Google Images, Bing, or another search engine to track down a diagram of a feedback loop. Please find one that is related to human physiology, and that we have not covered this week in class. In order to prevent us all from using the same diagrams, please start with page 2 of the search results.
  2. Look through the image. Are the parts labeled? If so, go through and delete these/cover them up  (see step 4 for the parts you should be removing). This can be done in a variety of ways such as using Paint 3D on Windows (Links to an external site.)Preview on Mac (Links to an external site.), or numerous other programs. If worse comes to worse, you can always print out the image, use a sharpie to redact the information, and then take a picture. This is an example of what an image looks like before and after deleting the pertinent parts.

  1. Post your fixed image to this discussion board. Please embed your image (Links to an external site.) as opposed to attaching it by the end of Friday at 11:59pm. You will be unable to see other people’s posts until you make your own post.
  2. By the end of Sunday at 11:59pm, reply to two of your peers. In this reply, you will be identifying the parts of the feedback loop they posted. You can think of this as “quizzing” yourself. In particular, fill out the table below in each of your replies. Hopefully, the post you are replying to has hidden this information. If someone else has replied, that is okay, you can also reply. However, please try to reply to someone who hasn’t been replied to first.
