Chapter 8 – Discussion: Managing Human Resources

Question

Introduction

Before the 1990’s, just having a college degree virtually guaranteed you a good paying job. The marketplace has changed but people still haven’t adapted to the new reality. Today it is about whether you have the right type of education and experience that allows you to earn a living wage. Just because you have a PhD in basket weaving doesn’t mean you are going to get a job or that it will pay you a living wage. Too many students pursue degrees with no clear idea as to their starting salary or their likelihood of getting job. With advances in technology and artificial intelligence, the job market is only going to get more competitive. Beyond getting your degree, what are you doing to make sure you are able to compete in tomorrow’s labor market?
