Research about Taking Notes and Strategies

One of the important skills that students need to develop is note taking as you can apply this skill in your future career.  Do you take notes during lectures, field trip, or meetings?  How did you take notes?     

Some of you discussed about note taking in the forum.  Let’s learn about how you should take notes this week.

  1. Read the Note-Taking A Research Roundup (Links to an external site.) by Cult of Pedagogy to learn about what research says about note-taking. 
  2. Watch the video Improving Cornell Notes with Sketchnoting Techniques (10:26)

  4. Watch Taking Notes: Crash Course Study Skills #1 (8:50)

  5. Respond to this discussion prompt by Tuesday 11:59 pm. Select the Reply box and write a paragraph for each of the following questions:
  1. You will report on something good that happened to you, or an accomplishment of yours from the last 5-7 days. It doesn’t have to be chemistry or science or even school-related. Please keep it appropriate!
  2. In the article, what are the 8 main points about research in note taking?  Which one(s) stands out to you the most?  
  3. Refer to your current note-taking practice, is your style similar to Cornell Notetaking Style, Outline Style, Sketchnoting Style, or Other Style? 
  4. Are you going to incorporate any of the techniques / suggestions to modify the way you take notes?  If so, which one(s) and how?   
  5. You will post and compare each other notes after we finish the chapter of acids and bases. (Next Week Discussion)
