Prompt 1: People typically view and interpret health outcomes and social inequities through three dominant message frames, one of which is the message of “Personal Responsibility.” That is, the message of “personal responsibility” argues that poor health stems from individuals making unhealthy choices and that we can encourage people to engage in health-promoting behaviors (e.g., exercise, eating right), but it’s up to them. How might this messaging help to reinforce the status quo (i.e., keep things the way they presently are) with regard to health inequities? Explain how the health choices we make may be shaped by the choices to which we have access.
