Watch the video documentary, Stop B4U Start, and along with the chapter readings and powerpoints, answer the questions following the video to answer in the Discussion Forum. Original posts are due by Wednesday, replies by Friday.

Use the resources provided to answer the questions below.
1. Do you believe that being accepted is part of the reason why young people begin using
alcohol or drugs? Why or why not? What are reasons as to why they are not accepted?
2. What are healthy outlets for young people to avoid alcohol and/or drugs? Explain.
3. Do you think there can be responsible use of an illegal substance? Why or why not? Explore
the various aspects of obtaining and using an illegal substance.
4. What is your opinion concerning the attitude toward and the treatment of women in our
society who have a drug dependency compared with the attitude toward and treatment of
men with drug problems?
5. Why are we currently seeing an increase in the use of certain illegal substances among the
youth in the American society? Does the solution to this problem lie in prevention
education, tougher drug enforcement laws, legalization of certain drugs, or in more
severe punishments for drug offenders?
6. Is marijuana a “gateway” drug? Why or why not?
7. If you know a person who is in recovery or has been sober from alcohol or drug abuse, what
was their turning point story? Is it similar to one of the stories in the video?
8. What resources are available on your campus or in your community to assist someone who
has a problem with alcohol? Are there resources that promote the prevention of alcohol
abuse; treatment; group support? What do you see on your campus that demonstrates either
the abuse of alcohol and efforts by the college to curb the abuse of alcohol and offer
protection for students?
9. What would you say to a friend who you suspect is abusing a drug? What can you do to
help them? Do you know where to find assistance with this problem?
