Major greenhouse gases are carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases. As of 2015, the total global emissions in metric tons were: carbon dioxide 34,521.91, methane 8,240.68, nitrous oxide 2,997.24, and fluorinated gases 1,000.64. Meanwhile, as of 2019, the US total emissions in metric tons are as follows: carbon dioxide 5,255.82, methane 659.71, nitrous oxide 457.14, and fluorinated gases 185.67 for a total of 6,558.35. As reflected, the highest gas emitted was carbon dioxide.
