  1. The Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) 2009 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination of health coverage and employment based on genetic information. It prohibits health insurance providers and administrations from requesting and/or requiring genetic information a person or a person’s family members. It also prevents employers from using genetic information as basis for hiring, promoting, and hiring employees. In essence, GINA 2009 provides protection against genetic discrimination.
