Chapter 2 DB

In this chapter we explore some of the most important issues in psychology. We learn what we know about psychology from our research and it is critical that students of psychology understand the components of a research study as well as the ethical issues involved in conducting research.

For the discussion, tell us what you think are the three most critical issues for a researcher to consider. Also include what you see as particular problems in researching psychological disorders. As always, be sure you are referencing specifics from the text and other readings. You must identify only three.

Chapter 2 DB Answer 3

There are specific issues that researchers should consider, especially because of the sensibilities in the field of abnormal psychology. Firstly, researchers have to consider the limitations that exist in the field. These limits include how the usage of various styles and methods of investigation can lead to contrasting results (Comer & Comer, 2019, p. 30). In other words, a researcher may end up being conflicted rather than certain about what they have uncovered. By accepting these limitations, researchers will be able to address insufficiencies in their findings.

Chapter 2 DB Answer 2

The three most critical issues that a researcher should consider are protecting human participants, informed consent, and adhering to overall ethical requirements for research. One of the primary obligations of the researcher is to protect their human participants. This means that the research method used, and its implementation must avoid physical and psychological harms at all costs (Comer, 2019).

Chapter 2 DB Answer

I believe one of the most critical issues for a researcher to consider is the limitations of a given study or research. Researchers need to consider what method of investigation is appropriate for a given study as well as its limitations. For instance, case studies are useful in giving a detailed account of a person such as “the person’s history, present circumstances, and symptoms” (p. 21). According to Bolgar (1965), case studies are useful as a “source of new ideas about behavior and ‘open the way for discoveries’” (as cited in Comer & Comer, 2019, p. 21).
