Week 2 Discussion Question 2 (M3/4 D2) Answer

Norms are defined as the “rules and guidelines regarding what kinds of behavior are acceptable” (Ferris & Stein, 2020, p. 76). Norms develop from the value system of a culture and they must be agreed upon or accepted by the majority of the members of a group. According to Conerly et. al (2021), norms reflect the compliance of cultures/societies with what they deemed as right or good (para. 6). Norms are necessary to society because they provide order. Norms guide people in relation to their interactions with other people. Without norms, there would be a possibility that our society would be chaotic.
