General Information

In “Identity”, Catherine G. Latterell presents us with a series of general assumptions about identity as does Sarah Lavoie in the video on identity.  Most if not all of these assumptions we take for granted and consider as common knowledge, but are they really so common and should we actually pay closer attention to them?

Using the information you have read in Latterell’s “Identity”, the video “Self Identity: Theory and Definition”, and your understanding the assumptions we make about identity, answer the questions below.

A) Which assumptions about personal identity help you define your own sense of identity?

B) Why is the topic of identity so important to our lives?

Discussion–Identity 1 Answer

 I believe that assumption 2 which states that identity is shaped by culture (8) and assumption 3 which states that identity is shaped by personal choices(10) define my own sense of identity. The society and the environment around have a great impact on how we shape our identity because these make us adjust to the norm in order to be accepted by the world around you
