Week 6 Discussion

Employees have to feel safe in their environment in order to provide the best possible care to patients. Thus, federal, state, and local laws provide rules for the treatment of employees as well as the expectations of employees.

For this discussion prompt, use the St. Martha’s General Hospital Scenario. After reviewing a scenario and reading about  employee rights and responsibilities,  discuss an employee right or responsibility that may have been violated at St. Martha’s General Hospital. Then, analyze the facts of the hypothetical situation against the right or responsibility to explain how there was a violation.

Week 6 Discussion Answer

In the workplace setting, codes of ethics and professional conduct do not only prioritize the welfare of the customers or clients (or in the medical field, the welfare of the patients); these guidelines protect the welfare of co-workers, employees, and the holistic nature of a positive working environment. In this view, administrators and institutions should protect the rights and enforce the responsibilities of the employees, ensuring that they do not violate their professional and ethical responsibilities towards co-workers
