- What is a workaround? Identify a workaround (specific to technology used in a hospital setting) that you have used or perhaps seen someone else use, and analyze why you feel this risk-taking behavior was chosen over behavior that conforms to a safety culture. What are the risks? Are there benefits? Why or why not?

Week 4: Workarounds and Their Implications for Patient Safety Answer
Workarounds are actions performed by an individual to circumvent or temporarily fix real or perceived workflow hindrances or system design flaws or cope with exceptional patient care circumstances (Deutsch, 2017). During the pandemic, healthcare workers were burnout because of attending to too many patients. In this time, workarounds became necessary for many healthcare workers to make their work done quickly. One workaround that I happen to witness in my workplace is using the barcode in medication administration.
