In the essay “Two American Writers”, [Sample Essay 3 posted in this module] the reader is given a glimpse of two great writers of the 20th Century as far as how they are similar and how they are different from each other.
A) What are some specific adjectives that the writer uses to describe each of the writers? Give at least 3 examples from the essay. Write your answer in 3 or 4 sentences.
B) Is this essay subject-by-subject, or point-by-point? Explain with specific examples from the essay. Write your answer in 5-6 sentences.
Comparison/Contrast Exercise Answer
The essay mentioned various adjectives to describe both Hemingway and Faulkner. For example in the first paragraph, it was mentioned that Hemingway, a big bear of a man seemed gregarious and like to hold the center of attention. He was handsome and some have said he prided himself on being a lady’s man. Faulkner a frail, soft-spoken man tended to be reclusive.
