Week 8 Discussion

Part 1 will be about survey research.  Part 2 is based on the SPSS workbook and revolves around between-groups designs (chapter 7). Answer both 1 and 2:

  1. Briefly explain survey research. Why is this method used so often in the social sciences? Give an example of a study that you would like to do where you would use surveys. What would the topic be about and why would a survey be appropriate for this? Would your survey primarily collect qualitative or quantitative information (and why)?

  1. Complete the gender and video game example from the SPSS workbook (p. 86). Paste the statistics output into your posting (Group Statistics output at minimum). This output must be included to show you did it. What is the output from the video game study? Describe some of the findings that you are able to make sense of (e.g., sample size, mean, confidence interval of difference, etc.).

Week 8 Discussion Answer

Survey research is when researchers conduct a study and gather data using survey interviews. This method is often used in social sciences because it asks respondents about their personal opinion, attitude, behavior, beliefs, etc. One example of study I would like to do using a survey is to determine how people are satisfied with the state’s government response towards COVID-19. A survey would be appropriate for this because it will ask respondents about their satisfaction levels. This survey will collect quantitative data because satisfaction will be measured from 1 to 3, 1 as dissatisfied, 2 neutral, and 3 as satisfied.
