General Information
Frank Bruni takes a hard look at the college admissions process and questions whether we should buy into the competitive frenzy, while Alexandra Robbins tells the story about the anguish, anxiety, and dread experienced by high school juniors/seniors who see college application on their horizon.

- A) What kinds of college application requirements do Bruni and Robbins describe that make attending a 4-year institution straight out of high school seem impossible? Give a specific example for each citing in MLA format.
- B) In what ways should the college application process be changed to make it fairer and simpler for high school students?
- C) After reading about the difficulties and stress of college applications, and after listening to Roberto Blake’s point of view in his YouTube, is college really worth it? Explain why or why not with specific reasons he has given to support your own point of view.
Discussion–Competition 2 Answer
Both essays wrote the significance of getting a high grade in SAT( Robbins), getting consistent grades in all subjects, extracurricular activities like music and sport, membership of honor societies, and community services about 100 hours (206). Grades are apparently very important and also their extracurricular activities.
Despite the fact that many doing their best in their schools, there are still many who get rejected by prestigious schools because they have set higher standards. To make it fairer, they should give an entrance exam that will not only accept those who have high average in school.
