Discussion Forum on Groups and Organization

Part I:

Choose one of the following four discussion prompts from the options below, and then respond to the question(s) within it as your initial post on this forum. If there’s a prompt that you notice hasn’t yet been selected by our peers, I encourage you to consider selecting it, in hopes to enrich our discussion about Groups and Organization even further. Be sure to start your response by letting us know which prompt you chose to explore (for example, you can indicate the number, such as #3) and then proceed to respond to all parts of the question you selected. Note that you may choose to post your response as a video or written response.

  1. Name a group that you belong to, and whether you consider them part of your primary or secondary group. How did you become affiliated with these people? What do you have in common?
  2. Are we more or less connected to other people nowadays? Does technology help us form relationships with others or does it impede our ability to make new friends?
  3. Describe a time you were led by a leader using, in your opinion, a leadership style that didn’t suit the situation. When and where was it? What could they have done better?
  4. Imagine you are in Asch’s study. Would you find it difficult to give the correct answer in that scenario? Why or why not? How would you change the study now to improve it?

Part II:

What is your “muddiest point” from this module, either from the reading assignment or the related videos? Be sure to include at least one question or general comment about the material, before submitting your initial post. [Note: the “muddiest point” refers to the most difficult or confusing part of the assigned reading and/or related videos].

Discussion Forum on Groups and Organization Answer

I believe everything has two sides. Technology can both help us form relationships with others and impede our ability to make new friends. On one hand, technology can help us form relationships with others, especially those people who are living in other areas or even in other countries. Without technology, we are limited to forming relationships with those who are near us geographically speaking. On the other hand, technology can impede our ability to make new friends. relationships formed online are different from relationships formed personally (i.e. face to face).
