Discussion #6 Answer

My gender was determined by my family through house chores and how I should behave. I am a boy and I am more privileged. Where girls my age were not permitted to climb a tree, boys my age were encouraged to play it rough, to stay outdoors, and as to how society dictated it, to be boys. We were not encouraged to help around the house aside from helping grown men with lawn duties. We were not even allowed to wash dishes. Machismo was expected from us, even at a young age. I was given toys that fit boys – guns, toy cars, toy weapons.
