Discussion #7 Answer

In terms of becoming a U.S. citizen, our choices make the difference and it becomes either the element of contentment or of regret. After reading Mukherjee, it comes to the point that the main issue lies on the choices she and Mira has made, what has come out of it, and how each identifies with the community they have married in (for which, the community that their husbands live in). Becoming a U.S. citizen has its pros and cons, which are the following:

Pros:

  1. ability to live in the United States
  2. assimilate in the new culture
  3. higher chance to receive benefits from the government
