Week 5 Discussion Answer

What is the composition of a histone?

Viruses and bacteria’s genetic material is made up of DNA or RNA strands that are largely protein-free. In contrast, in all phases of the cell cycle, eukaryotic chromatin has a significant amount of protein identified as positively charged histones and less positively charged nonhistones. Histones play the most significant structural role. They have a lot of positively charged amino acids like lysine and arginine, which allows them to create electrostatic bonds to the negatively charged phosphate groups of nucleotides.
