The article “The Role of Consent in the Context of BDSM” discussed what makes BDSM different from abuse and psychopathology. It talked about these three major topics about consent about BDSM activity. First, informed consent is vital in the success and safety of BDSM activity. Second, the BDSM community teaches the participants about the importance of informed consent before they begin the activity. Lastly, there is a gray area in consent and the issue of unreported assault from a BDSM activity.

 

Cara Dunkley and Lori Brotto, the authors, emphasized that consent is the main issue in the BDSM realm.
