Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a condition when the stomach acid flows back into the tube that connects the mouth and the stomach known as the esophagus (Kahrilas, 2020). Among the symptoms of GERD are heartburn which typically happens after meal, dysphagia or difficulty swallowing, regurgitation or the backward flow of of food or liquid, and chest pain(Mayo Clinic, 2020). Some patients with GERD may also experience laryngitis or the inflammation of the larynx because of irritation, insomnia or sleeping difficulty, and chronic cough (Kahrilas, 2020).
