Based on the modules and readings, how does Augustine argue that evil does not disprove God’s existence? (2-4 sentences)
Based on the reading and modules, explain why James thinks it’s permissible to believe that God exists without evidence. Provide your own original example. (2-4 sentences)
Exam 1 Answer
Augustine argued that evil does not disprove God’s existence since good can exist without evil, but evil cannot exist without good. When God created the universe everything was good, but evil (like parasites) leaches off from good. It means God never intended for evil to exist, He only created the good, it is His creations evil as an exercise of their free will.
