Group consciousness refers to the concept whereby members of the same social identity, such as race or ethnic group, become aware or conscious of how their group identity impacts their position and status in a society, thereby driving them to come together and unite to pursue collective actions that advocate and advance their shared interests. It is important to note that group consciousness is not a group identity albeit, group identity is a necessary precondition for the emergence of group consciousness
