The criteria for the ideal textbook, according to Shirley Engle and Anna Ochoa, would be that the students themselves should be able to confront the questions even when the answers are not necessarily provided for already. The second criterion here involved being utterly selective. Thirdly, they had mentioned that issues should be studied in debt with the use of various resources of all types from a plethora of fields. Based on this criteria provided, one can argue that most texts would not necessarily answer to the first two – of how these texts can to be selective as well as confrontational.
