Week 5 Discussion: Music and Dance Answer
The movement I chose to write about would be the Rock and Roll and Rap era. This era caught my attention because it’s a genre that I enjoy listening to every now and then. According to Martin (2018), “rock and roll has its roots in R&B—rhythm and blues—popular in the 1940s in the United States primarily among black radio audiences”. Along with hip hop music, rock and roll also has its roots in gospel, shout, and blues. Like R&B music, rock and roll deals with a range of emotions like themes of pain and suffering, the pursuit of freedom and happiness.
