1-What do you see in Mondrian’s paintings? Please explain your thoughts.

2-Look at Willem De Kooning’s Women and describe this painting. Describe the use of color and line quality.  How do you feel about this work?

3-Barnett Newman. List words or ideas that come to mind when you look at this painting. Why does this painting make you think about those words?

4-How would you describe the mood of Mark Rothko’s paintings?

5- What exactly did the Abstract Expressionists reject?

  1. Take a look at the first 4 images in the slide show and write down what you see and how you feel about the artwork. Please don’t look at the rest of the pdf file, only the first 4 images. This is all about how you feel when looking at these paintings.

 

Image 1- The first painting is Piet Mondrian’s Broadway Boogie Woogie. The first impression that transpires me is that it looks like a pacman game. It is like crossroads. If you just plainly look at the picture, you will never identify nor appreciate what does the painting means.
