Act I is comprised of four scenes. It provides the historical, political background behind Old Hamlet’s death (the former King of Denmark) and Prince Hamlet’s desire for revenge. Act 1 shows the readers how Hamlet felt about his mother’s new marriage and the promises he made to the ghost of Old Hamlet.
