What Do We Know About Health, Safety or Nutrition?

This week we are beginning our exploration of Health, Safety and Nutrition for the Young Child by reflecting on our own experience and knowledge. Health and wellbeing, safety from injury or harm, physical activity and healthy nutrition are relevant to each of us -determining our overall wellbeing and the quality of our lives. In the discussion this week, please share what you know or think to be true about the various topics we will explore this semester. This is not a research project, begin with what you know from experience, other classes, conversations with friends, family and those you sought out for information on one or more of these topics. The focus is on what you know now, and how you know.

This will be a small group discussion; you have been sorted into groups and each group has been given a topic to address. Each of you must post your thoughts first before you will be able to see the posts of your group mates. Expect to check into the discussion three or more times between this week and next. After your initial post, return to the discussion to read what others have contributed. Reply to the posts of others in your group -do you agree or disagree and why? How do you know or how did you find out the information shared in your posts? Take some time to look for information that supports your point of view or your contribution (your supporting/corroborating evidence should be from a valid and reliable source -everything we read on the internet is not factual or true).

In your “Getting Started Groups”, try to come to some agreement about what is factual or true regarding your topic. Topics are assigned as follows to groups 1 -7. To find our what group you are in, click on the group that appears on this assignment for you, or go to people and find your name in the Getting Started Groups list. Remember you must post and respond to your classmates, follow the directions in the attachment. The groups final post should reflect what you all agree are facts about the topic you have been assigned.
